DMH Hosts Fourth Annual Research Awareness Day

In an effort to heighten awareness of the role that research plays in the health care industry, Decatur Memorial Hospital will host its fourth annual Research Awareness Day Poster Presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the DMH Classrooms.

A Gallery Walk of research projects will include current research studies that are being conducted by college students, medical students, residents, interns, radiology technicians, and physicians. The morning session from 8-11:30 a.m. is for health care professionals and the afternoon session from 1:30 - 4 p.m. is open to the general public. The event promises an opportunity to learn what type of research is being done, and to encourage those who might want to participate in research activities in the future, while simultaneously alerting DMH to possible therapeutic opportunities for our own patients. DMH’s Research Department processes more than 200 protocols annually.

The featured keynote speaker at noon is Romergryko Geocadin, M.D., Associate Professor of Neurology, Neurological Surgery and Anesthesiology-Critical Care Medicine, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, Md. on “Hypertensive Emergencies in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Pathophysiology and Management”.

DMH is providing state-of-the-art health care by offering the community the most novel treatments in the setting of clinical trials. The qualities of clinical judgments improve when knowledge of research results are considered alongside patient characteristics, situations, and preferences. This enables the health care team to maximize the quality and quantity of an individual’s life.
