Patients can now access services on-line
A new on-line service gives patients round-the-clock access to many health-related services previously available only during business hours.
Decatur Memorial Hospital recently introduced DMH Patient Portal. The secure, confidential website gives patients convenient access to make appointments, request medication refills, ask billing and medical questions and even submit home blood sugar and blood pressure readings.
Currently, DMH Patient Portal is available to patients of Drs. Timothy Miller, Kristin Newcome, Thomas Rohde, Michael Wall and Brian Yocks. By March, this new feature will also be available for the patients of these physicians: Drs. Nidal Aker, Patrick Cavanagh, Mohammed Dawood, Oliver Dold, Reginald Ebirim, Douglas Ellis, Thomas Fulbright, Mohommad Hasnain, Madu Jyothinagaram, Robert Kraus Jr., Anthony McCormack, Venkat Minnaganti, Mark Nielsen, Muhammad Qureshi, Suhail Siddiqui, Tansel Turgut, John Waters, Ruel Wright and Volney Willett.
Patients of these physicians can access the DMH Patient Portal by going to http://mydoctor.dmhhs.org.
“This is a simple and secure solution for our patients,” said Family Practitioner Timothy Miller, MD, whose office offers the online service. “It eliminates patient wait times in the office or on the phone and allows patients who travel frequently or leave for the winter to continue to communicate with us.”
Using technology to better serve patients is not new to DMH. In 2001, the hospital began using an inpatient electronic medical record system. Physician offices also began using electronic medical records in 2001; in 2005, the physician offices then incorporated a chronic disease management program called CareManager™ to assist with home-monitoring of more than 30,000 patients with chronic illnesses. For physician offices, DMH Patient Portal is the next step.
