An ultrasound scan is used to detect cholesterol buildup/plaque and/or aneurysm in the abdominal aortic artery.

Risk Factors

• History of carotid disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure
• Family history of heart disease or stroke
• Smoker
• Diabetic
• Abnormal heart score
• Calcium on x-ray
• Age: Over age 40
