Caring For Your Nose
Care of the nasal cavity and sinuses is one of the primary skills of otolaryngologists. Common problems with the nasal area include sinusitis, smell disorders, polyps and nasal obstruction caused by a deviated septum.

What causes nosebleeds?
The lining of your nasal cavity contains many tiny blood vessels close to the surface that are easily damaged. The most common cause of nosebleeds is the drying of the nasal passages in hot climates with low humidity or when there is a change of season. Other causes may include allergies, hypertension, sinusitis or trauma to the nose from picking, rubbing or excessive blowing.

Symptoms of Chronic Sinusitis
Chronic sinusitis is a common condition in which sinus cavities are inflamed and swollen for more than 12 weeks. Symptoms include thick, discolored discharge from the nose or down the back of the throat (postnasal drainage), congestion causing difficulty breathing through the nose, tenderness and swelling around the eyes, cheeks and forehead, and reduced sense of small and taste. Acute sinusitis, or sinus infection, has similar symptoms but does not last as long and usually responds to treatment.
