Every birth experience is unique and special, and at Decatur Memorial Hospital, we’re passionate about creating an experience that is customized to meet the personal needs of expectant moms and their families.

For vaginal deliveries, you’ll enjoy the experience of delivering in one of our spacious and well-appointed Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum (LDRP) rooms. Each LDRP is fully-equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, private bathrooms, newborn bassinet, and a fold out bed for your support person.

For cesarean deliveries, DMH has dedicated operating rooms located in the labor and delivery area. Our top-notch team of obstetricians, anesthesiologists and nurses will provide you with excellent, comprehensive care. You will recover in a special recovery area, which allows you to remain with your baby and spouse / partner prior to settling in to your post-partum room.

Pain Management

Your nurse, under the physician’s order, will help you with managing your pain. Medication is not the only method for relief of pain. Other methods include:

  • Changing positions
  • Massage
  • Warm blankets to lower back areas
  • Relaxation techniques (such as deep breathing)
  • Listening to music
  • Focal points
  • Movement
  • Birthing Balls
  • Touch
  • Music
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques

Pain medication:

  • Pain relievers.
  • Epidurals.
  • Perineal injections.
  • General anesthesia (C-sections only)
