Carotid Artery Screening
A simple ultrasound scan is used to detect narrowing of the carotid arteries in the neck caused by cholesterol buildup/plaque which can lead to stroke.
Risk Factors
- History of cardiovascular or peripheral vascular disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure
- Family history of carotid disease
- Smoker
- Diabetic
- Overweight
- Abnormal heart score
- Calcium on x-ray
- Age: Over age 65
