Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy – or HBOT

A key piece of the DMH’s Wound Center. Although not everyone is eligible for HBOT, many patients are able to take advantage of its benefits.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a treatment in which a patient breathes 100% oxygen intermittently while inside a treatment “chamber” at a pressure higher than sea level pressure.   HBOT improves the body’s healing function by increasing oxygen flow. While enclosed in a hyperbaric chamber, patients breathe pure oxygen, saturating their blood plasma and allowing it to carry 15 to 20 times the normal amount of healing oxygen to the body’s tissues. Our physicians are trained to use hyperbaric medicine, and technicians make patients comfortable by sitting beside them while they receive the therapy.
