Decatur Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Partnering With American Cancer Society
April 13, 2018…Decatur, Ill… The American Cancer Society, in a cooperative effort with Decatur Memorial Hospital, partner with hotels across the country to provide overnight accommodations to cancer patients who must travel for outpatient treatment and need assistance with lodging.
If you’re a facing a cancer diagnosis and your doctor says, “Your best hope for a cure is in another city,” your first thought may be, “Where am I going to stay and how am I going to pay for it?” The DMH Cancer Care Institute of Decatur is a Comprehensive, multi-accredited facility and offers advanced multidisciplinary treatment in Central Illinois.” says Calvin Robinson, Executive Director of the DMH Cancer Care Institute, “More than 30 percent of our patients travel from outside Macon County. To obtain easy access to our facility, we have partnered with The American Cancer Society to ease the financial burden of transportation and lodging costs to out of town patients.”
The American Cancer Society is currently partnered with a hotel in Forsyth, Illinois, through its Hotel Partners Program to provide complimentary rooms to patients who need to travel to receive their treatment at DMH Cancer Care Institute.
To be eligible to receive lodging through the Hotel Partners Program, patients must be traveling for a cancer-related medical appointment, be in need of lodging near their treatment center, have a permanent residence and be able to care for their personal needs or travel with a companion who can assist them. The program is open to cancer patients of all ages, including pediatric patients accompanied by a parent, and patients traveling with children.
The Hotel Partners Program donated more than 120,000 hotel stays in locations throughout the US, and helped more than 15,000 patients and their families overcome the financial stress of travelling for treatment in 2017. Call the American Cancer Society for more information 800-227-2345.
