DMH Hosting Spring Stroke Symposium

DECATUR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL CELEBRATES STROKE AWARENESS MONTH

May 8, 2018…Decatur, Ill… Decatur Memorial Hospital will host its annual Stroke Symposium at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 in the Classroom Complex at the Hospital to celebrate Stroke Awareness Month. This spring’s event is titled, “Be Stroke Aware” and will feature health care specialists and leaders in the areas of stroke prevention, detection and treatment presenting on a variety of stroke-related topics:

• Be Stroke Aware Introduction – Oliver Dold, MD, Neurosurgeon, DMH Medical Group
• BE FAST, Call 911! – Steve Munson, EMT, Training Officer
• The First Hour of Stroke – Ted Clark, MD, Medical Director, DMH Emergency Care Center
• Prevent the First Stroke – Stephen Goetter, MD, FACP, Internal Medicine, DMH Signature Health
• Prevent the Second Stroke- Anthony Collins, MD, Neurologist

In addition, free health screenings including Carotid, Blood Pressure, and Stroke Risk will be available, as well as a booths with information to prevent stroke with Risk Modifications. Fewer than half of 9-1-1 calls for stroke are made within one hour of symptom onset. DMH Brain and Stroke Center will be introducing the use of BE FAST to identify common stroke symptoms at this event. Please register online or call 217-876-2850 to register.
