DMH Takes Critical Care To A Higher Level
Hospital receives Level II Trauma Center designation
2-20-2017…Decatur, Ill…Decatur Memorial Hospital (DMH) has been formally designated as a Level II Trauma Center. Through this designation, Macon County and the surrounding counties will have access to quality trauma care without having to travel outside of Decatur.
“This achievement comes as the result of the hard work of many individuals over the last several months,” said Timothy D. Stone Jr., President and CEO, Decatur Memorial Hospital. “Special recognition must go to our dedicated and determined physicians and clinical team. Through their efforts we are able to provide this critical service for our community.”
To be a designated Level II Trauma Center, hospitals must meet rigorous standards for care including specialized staff, higher and continuous education and training, and advanced diagnostic equipment.
A higher level of care for our patients:
- Advanced Diagnostic Technology: DMH emergency room physicians are armed with the latest imaging capabilities that deliver precise images of vital organs and severe injuries in seconds–getting trauma patients into treatment faster.
- 24/7 Surgical Coverage by Traumatologists: For severe injuries requiring intervention, our physicians, including traumatologists, are prepared to spring into action with fast access to surgical sub-specialists: anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, obstetrics, cardiothoracic, orthopedic and urology.
- Specially Trained Nurses: DMH has implemented new care processes to manage volume and initiate care needs as soon as patients enter the emergency room and trauma center. The trauma nurses have received additional certification in trauma care. They are specifically trained to respond quickly, assess the often complex needs of each trauma patient, stabilize their condition and prepare them for emergency surgery, if necessary.
- Coordinated Care after Treatment: Our trauma care doesn’t end in the ER. If critical care is necessary we have intensivists available 24/7.
“The DMH medical staff is proud of our recent Level II Trauma designation − trauma care is the epitome of team care,” said David Baumberger M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Decatur Memorial Hospital. “Our surgeons and emergency physicians are prepared to care for Level II trauma patients and are proud to provide a new standard of trauma care in Macon County.”
