Friday August, 28th 2020

August 28, 2020…DECATUR – A coalition of community partners is teaming up to continue to provide free COVID-19 testing at a drive-through testing center.

Beginning Sept. 1, the free testing will be offered from 8 a.m. until noon Mondays through Fridays on the parking lot of the Decatur Civic Center, 1 Gary K. Anderson Plaza. The testing could be expanded to the afternoons if the demand is there, officials said.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is currently offering testing through Sunday, Aug. 30. Two days later, testing will resume under the sponsorship of Crossing Healthcare, Decatur Memorial Hospital, the City of Decatur and Macon County Health Department.

Crossing Healthcare will perform the testing. No appointments are required. Tests will be performed with nasal swabs.

“We’re grateful for the Illinois Department of Public Health for providing this free testing through Aug. 30,” said Tanya Andricks, CEO of Crossing Healthcare. “We’re excited to partner with Decatur Memorial Hospital, Macon County Health Department and the City of Decatur to offer this service to the community.”

Individuals can be tested whether or not they have symptoms. They should wear a mask when they drive up. Insurance information will be collected.
